About Ani Ipradjian
Ani Ipradjian: Australian Abstract Artist in Melbourne
Hello, my name is Ani Ipradjian, and I am a professional abstract artist based in Melbourne, Australia. From an early age, I knew I had a passion for exploring color and art, leading me to create endless color charts, composite colors, complementary colors, and color wheels by hand before the internet era.
One of my earliest memories is drawing with chalk on the sidewalk, which evolved into using pens and pencils on any material I could find—paper, wood, cardboard boxes, and even lunch bags. In kindergarten and preschool, I preferred to stay indoors and draw while other kids played outside. Art has always been a therapeutic escape for me, helping me navigate the daily grind. Even in high school, carrying my oversized canvases and folio back and forth was always a challenge, but I did it happily. Art has always been an integral part of my life.
It was my dream to be a full-time artist from a young age. I started exhibiting my work at around 16 to 17 years old. In high school, all my subjects revolved around art and design. After high school, I completed an Associate Diploma in Art and Design, followed by an Associate Diploma in Graphic Design. I worked in the advertising industry for a long time, mainly in real estate advertising and newspapers. A few years ago, I also completed an Associate Diploma in Photography.
Studying art and design was the happiest time of my life. I became obsessed with asymmetrical design and color, which allowed me to express myself freely through different mediums and design concepts, ultimately creating the unique style I have today. After experimenting with various mediums, I found that acrylics were the perfect fit for me. Everything I have studied has been a significant part of my artistic process, helping me develop and evolve into the artist I am today.
My inspiration comes from the Orphism movement, which is derived from Cubism and was born in 1912. Artists like Robert and Sonia Delaunay, Wassily Kandinsky, Victor Vasarely, and my idol, Pablo Picasso, deeply influence me.
A pinnacle moment in my career was having my art featured on The Block for three consecutive years—2019, 2020, and 2022. Contestants chose my pieces for their room reveals, validating my unique artistic vision on a nationally recognized platform. My art has also appeared on House Rules and D’Vine Living, and in esteemed publications such as Grand Design magazine, Home Beautiful, Home Design, Art Edit, Art Lovers Book, Herald Sun, and Manningham Leader.
My style is asymmetrical and abstract, featuring geometric shapes, luscious textures, and vibrant color combinations that encapsulate Australia's native flora, fauna, suburbs, outback, and urban landscapes. Texture is the most important concept in my work, and I believe it is everything in my body of work.
